    Early Life and Career

    David Payden Passaro, known professionally as Davey Havok, was born on November 20, 1975, in Rochester, New York.

    He spent his early years in the care of his Italian-American family, including his mother and stepfather whose surname he adopted, Marchand. After relocating to Ukiah, California, at age eight, Havok attended Catholic schools until eighth grade.

    He graduated from Ukiah High School in 1993 and briefly pursued English and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. However, his musical career with the rock band AFI took off during his sophomore year, leading him to abandon his studies.
